Faraar (transl. Absconding) is a 1975 Bollywood crime film drama. The film is produced by Alankar Chitra and directed by Shanker Mukherjee. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Sanjeev Kumar, Sulochna, Sajjan, Agha and Bhagwan Dada. The music is by Kalyanji Anandji.

The film is based around a middle-class man, Rajesh (Bachchan) living with his sister. He is in love with a young woman, and he intends to marry her once he has found a potential husband to take care of his sister. However, one day the sister is raped and murdered and the police are unable to find any clues and it is left to Rajesh to find the murderers and avenge her death. He traces the murderer and kills him, and is therefore now on the run from the police himself.

On the run he is reunited with his old flame Asha (Tagore). While sparks fly, they both realize that they still love each other and yet they respect social values. How Rajesh, Asha, Mala and Sanjay (Kumar) resolve the knotty issue of unrequited love while the law is chasing Rajesh is the story skilfully narrated in the film through a series of flashbacks.

The film has two endings. One where Rajesh gets shot by police and dies. Another one where Rajesh gets shot by police but is taken to hospital before taken to prison (off screen). The film was remade in Malayalam by Priyadarshan as Parayanumvayya Parayathirikkanumvayya.

The film was a hit at the box office and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The performances of Bachchan, Tagore and Kumar were praised for their intensity and chemistry. The film also has some memorable songs composed by Kalyanji Anandji such as "Tere Bina Zindagi Se", "Main Pyaasa Tum Sawan" and "Hum Toh Hai Chhui Mui".
